Jewish History

The Shulamith High School Jewish History curriculum is designed to enable students to understand the history of the Jews and its effect on cultures and individuals. Students are encouraged to think critically about the political, economic, cultural and social bases for historical events, as well as the people who helped drive them.

Zionism and Modern Israel

This course aims to educate and empower students through an understanding of the history of the State of Israel and the conflicts surrounding Israel which continue to dominate news headlines and international attention. Together, teachers and students examine major points of contention, their historical underpinnings, and the persuasive arguments of a pro-Israel advocate. Students are equipped with the knowledge and tools to serve as passionate and articulate defenders of Israel in the face of the constant challenges to Israel’s credibility.

Holocaust and Human Behavior

SHS seniors are presented with more than just the history and events of the Holocaust. They are exposed to the surrounding moral and ethical dilemmas and examine the notion of humanity. Students are asked to understand the origins of this mass genocide and how something this depraved not only occurred, but was so widely supported.
