Curriculum Overview

SHS utilizes an instructional approach that engages students through problem solving activities, writing assignments, group discussions, debate, reflection activities, and other techniques that promote critical thinking. Students are not passive learners, rather, they take an active role in developing skills and learning new concepts. Through peer collaboration, students engage deeply with content. Teachers facilitate learning with strategies that speak to a variety of learning styles. SHS promotes a supportive environment and encourages frequent and significant discussion between students and teachers. More than simply ensuring students are prepared to excel on Regent and AP exams, teachers are committed to fostering an atmosphere that encourages skills for life and a love of learning.
